From time to time we have couples asking us about favorite or best spots in San Francisco to make photographs. Often, it’s connected with a portrait shoot or a post-wedding photography tour around the city. Well, we’ve photographed around the city for years, and here is a quick and easy visual guide for all you lovers and travelers out there.

First up, San Francisco City Hall. And Yes, Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were married here in 1954. Here’s a mash up of two weddings that we’ve photographed. One couple had additional wedding related session along 17 Mile Drive in Carmel and again at a venue in Santa Cruz. The Second couple had Doug photograph them again for a family wedding celebration on Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, followed by a reception at the Big Sur Bakery. We often find that our more private intimate shoots are coupled later on with larger, more lavish celebrations either here in Northern California, the Central Coast of Big Sur, or somewhere even further away, as we’ve seen for Hawaii and Thailand.

North Beach (along Columbus Ave & Grant Ave, great shops, eats, wall murals, gelato and tiramisu, and of course coffee drinks)

Lombard Street (nice view of city hill and streets from the top)

Cable Car (California Line) that goes over Nob Hill (Quirky and fun, though sometimes about a 15 min wait for it to arrive)

Golden Gate Bridge from Marin Side (beautiful wide vista of bridge and San Francisco behind it)

Presidio (gorgeous hidden green tree lined trails)

Palace of Fine Arts / Marina (pretty structure, pond and huge bright green doors)

Mission District (Valencia Street full of cool little shops and colorful wall murals and graffitti)

Potrero Hill (beautiful view of San Francisco skyline)

Chinatown (colorful street art and vendors, alleyways and wall murals)

Baker Beach (nice beach area and view of Golden Gate from below, though far end is a clothing optional area)

Legion of Honor outside space (beautiful columns and light)

Ocean Beach (pretty beach with a yummy restaurant perched on a cliff, takes about 45 mins to get there from City Hall)

Mt. Tamalpais (hill area 45 mins North of city with long view of SF skyline in back)
